A man from Port Hueneme was killed in a single-vehicle crash on April 15. The accident was located near McGrath State Beach on Harbor Boulevard. Around 5:25 a.m. the accident was reported. The California Highway Patrol noted that the single-vehicle crash was reported on southbound Harbor, south of the intersection with Gonzales Road.
WHO WAS KILLED IN THE AUTO ACCIDENT?
The driver killed in the accident was identified as 53-year-old man Jason Douglas Provost.
Provost was driving southbound in a silver 2021 Toyota Camry at the time of the single-vehicle crash. Also, there were no other passengers in his vehicle.
WHAT CAUSED THE SINGLE-VEHICLE CRASH?
While heading down Harbor Boulevard near Fifth Street, Provost veered towards the right shoulder and hit a power pole head-on. CHP is currently investigating why Provost veered his car in the direction of the pole in the first place.
After the accident occurred, Ventura County crews and the Oxnard Fire Department arrived to help the victim. Provost was pulled from the wreckage but was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP officials state that it is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
The location of the crash on Harbor Boulevard is divided between the city of Oxnard and county land. Additionally, a fire official stated that the scene of the accident was in the county’s jurisdiction and part of a predominantly agricultural area.
According to the VC Star, the southbound lane was closed for a few hours. Around 8 a.m. all lanes reopened for public use.
SECOND FATAL ACCIDENT IN OXNARD WITHIN TWO DAYS
Provost’s death was the second fatal crash on roadways within the Oxnard area in two days. On the early morning of April 14, a 26-year-old woman from Oxnard was killed after her car flipped over. In fact, she crashed after failing to drive her vehicle along a curve on the Santa Clara Avenue off-ramp from northbound Highway 101.
