Two People Killed in Oxnard Auto Accident

Two people were killed in an Oxnard auto accident on Sunday, February 14. The crash was reported just after midnight in a residential area south of the Oxnard airport. The crash was at the intersection of Fifth Street and Portofino Place.

One man was in a 2020 Honda Civic and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. There was also a woman in the Honda Civic who was critically injured. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in the area. Tragically, she did not survive for very long.

According to the VC Star, the Honda Civic was on Fifth Street heading west. The car was in the outside lane by the sidewalk. It clipped a 2022 Hyundai Sonata which was going in the same direction in the interior lane. Oxnard Police Commander Luis McArthur said that this hit caused the Honda Civic to spin and rollover multiple times until it stopped. It came to rest on the other side of the street where cars were going in the opposite direction.

Pending notification of the next of kin, the names of the victims currently remain unknown to the public.

The driver of the Sonata remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the investigators. There were no other passengers in the Sonata at the time of the accident. The sole individual in that vehicle was not hurt by the collision.

Initial investigations by police revealed that the wrongful death collision was largely caused by speed and reckless driving.
